This unique Huatulco tour is located near La Bocana beach in an area called Copalita. Being only an 8 minute drive from town, there are plenty of options for you regarding Getting Around Huatulco.

Price and General Info

At only 50 pesos a person, about $5 USD, this self-guided tour offers a very inexpensive option for a day trip. As far as arrangements go, they do not require advance booking and tickets can be purchased at the front desk.

Having opened its gates in the fall of 2010, The Parque Eco Arqueologico provides a beautiful spot to walk around while viewing ruins of a historic significance. Although it should be mentioned that some of the ruins have been reconstructed in order to give a better perspective of what they once looked like. So if you are looking for something that is 100% authentic this may not me the place for you, however the value for the price is undeniable.

As you tour the area you will find a series of ruins believed to have been last inhabited in the 15th century by a small community of about 2 thousand. Skeletal remains suggest that the people were susceptible to infections and diseases believed to be a main contributor of their deaths. One of the things making this site so unique is that it offers the only look into the Mixteca culture along the Pacific coast.

The many podiums located around the site and in front or the ruins offer an even more detailed account of the events that are believed to have transpired. And don't worry, the writings are provided in both Spanish and English!

Located inside the park is a museum that showcases many historical pieces from all over Oaxaca. Including clay pots and other utensils used by the natives. The cost to enter is included in the admissions fee, adding even more value to your dollar.

The Parque Eco Arqueologico's beautiful landscape and walking trails offers a perfect back drop for a picnic, so be sure to pack a lunch. You can even take a scenic trail up to a look out point that oversees the grounds, one of the many ways of staying fit in Huatulco. While the visitors center provides information, washrooms, a place to hold your belongings, and first aid.

So who is this Huatulco tour ideal for? The Parque Eco Arqueologico is probably best suited for an adult crowd as young kids with their limited attention spans may be left bored and a little underwhelmed.
